Term 1 Overview

Maths
This Term in Maths we will be working on the Number. We will spend the first few weeks revising and consolidating our Maths Strategies such as looking for 10, doubles/near doubles, jump strategy, split strategy and rainbow facts.
We will be working on skip counting and grouping. The students will work on recognising, ordering and representing numbers up to 10 000 and using a number line. We will investigate the connection between addition and subtraction and use our knowledge to solve problems.

English
Spelling/Grammar- This term our goal for spelling is to increase students’ ability to spell a wider range of high frequency words correctly. We will work on transferring their spelling knowledge into all areas of writing. There will be a focus on working on nouns, verbs and contractions.
Writing- Our two goals this term are to explicitly teach paragraphing to students to ensure they can structure them correctly. We will then have a focus on developing their Persuasive and Narrative writing. Students will begin to work on learning modern cursive.
Reading- This term our goal is for all students to complete the Premiers Reading Challenge and develop a positive attitude to reading a variety of texts. We will work through comprehension strategies such as Making Connections and Using Prior Knowledge. We will also be working intensively with Jane Moore in term one on reading and book selections.

Geography
This term we will have a focus on understanding how the world is divided, knowing the states and territories of Australia and why people are connected to places. Students will also learn about different climate types as well as different types of settlements that people live in. We will also learn about Australia’s neighbouring countries.

Health
Students will explore effective ways to communicate and interact with others and be involved in team building activities. We will have a focus on wellbeing and will be working on Growth Mindset activities. We will also be involved in social skills.
