Term 3 Overview


Term 3 Overview-Living Things

This term our cross curriculum topic is Living Things.  

English
In spelling this term the students will continue to work through individualised lists. This ensures that each student is only learning words that they are having difficulty with. We will continue to focus on editing skills.
In writing this term we will continue to consolidate our narrative genre skills and also work on report writing. We have started our formal cursive handwriting lessons which aims to have all students writing neatly in cursive by the end of the year. This is a requirement for Year 3 students and an opportunity for practice for Year 2 students. In reading our focus is on comprehension, and the use of  questioning. Students will continue to be involved in weekly guided reading sessions.
In grammar we will be working on the following
  • statements/questions
  • antonyms/synonyms
  • commas
  • apostrophes
  • prefixes/suffixes
  • verb and noun groups
Maths

This term in Maths we will be focussing on the following areas
  • Mass and capacity
  • maps and coordinates
  • Area
  • Angles
  • Time
Science
We will be developing the students knowledge and understanding of living things and how they can be grouped. Our focus is on further developing their science skills of engaging, exploring, explaining, elaborating and evaluating.

Technology
This term we will continue to develop our coding skills and use Book Creator to publish our own non-fiction online books.

Health
In health students will investigate ways to keep themselves and others healthy, safe and physically active.The students will understand the benefits of healthy eating and how their body reacts to different physical activities.
